I know we could chat separately but maybe you’d like to have the engagement here. As someone who is creating a social platform of my own, what monetization strategy do you prefer? It costs money to host, develop, and innovate. Do you prefer the “free” model with tons of ads and data targeting and harvesting? Or a freemium model where there’s a base set of features that is free but extra stuff that is a monthly fee? What’s ideal?
I completely agree that a social revolution is coming. I am getting it will involve new platforms optimized and personalized for certain interests (like gaming). And I think people are getting sick of giving their data for free and being the money makers for mega millionaires and billionaires. Also, is it just me, or has the amount of ads on social tripled in the last year?
Yea ads have definitely increased. What bothers me the most is this idea that companies can start charging for something that was once free such as verification. Don't get me started with BMW offering subscriptions for seat heaters! I guess I'm ok with a one-time fee to process it but a monthly subscription hits a sore spot. So, I guess if I don't pay for the following month I'm not the "real" me anymore?
To be honest, I don't mind ads on social platforms. Paying for extra features is totally ok. I think the platforms are starting to see a decline in ad spending because brands now would rather pay the creators themselves to promote their products and services. That's how I'm seeing it at least.
